Caramel Apple S'mores: Two Ways to Make Them — Colonia Del Rey RV Blog

The classic s'more is hard to improve on, but caramel apple s'mores make a very compelling argument. The tartness of the warm grilled apple against the rich caramel and the toasted marshmallow is a flavor combination that just works — especially on a cooler fall evening around the campfire at Colonia del Rey RV Park. We're sharing two methods: the true campfire version and an oven version for when the weather isn't cooperating.

Two Ways to Make Caramel Apple S'mores

When the weather starts getting chilly at night, we don't always want to be outside to make our s'mores. However, some of us do! We thought it would be great to be able to know how to make these delicious caramel apple s'mores over the campfire or in your oven!

Ingredients

1 apple, cored and sliced about ¼ inch thick
1 jar caramel topping
Graham crackers
Marshmallows

Over the Campfire Method

Heat up a grill grate over your fire and grill your apples just to soften lightly and warm them through. Spread some caramel on your graham cracker. Toast your marshmallow to your preference and place on the caramel-covered graham cracker. Carefully place the hot apple on top of the marshmallow and top with another graham cracker. Enjoy!

In the Oven Method

Heat your oven to 375°F. Spread your caramel on your graham cracker and set aside. On a foil-lined pan, place your apple slices with a marshmallow on top. Bake for about 4 minutes. If you want your marshmallow to have the toasty flavor, pop it under the broiler for about 1 minute — keep a close eye on this. It will burn fast.

After you remove your apples from the oven, place on the caramel-covered graham cracker and top with another. Enjoy!

A honeycrisp or granny smith apple gives the best contrast against the sweetness of the caramel and marshmallow. This is a great one to make with kids — let them pick their apple variety and add a little extra caramel drizzle on top if they want.
